We report a quantitative investigation of the magnetic field-temperature phase diagram by taking into account a simple phenomenological model arising out of the interplay of kinetic arrest and thermodynamic transitions in a magnetic glass Pr0.5Ca0.5Mn0.975Al0.025O3, through magnetization measurements. Such studies are necessary as kinetic arrest plays an important role in the formation of “magnetic glasses”, which has been observed in systems undergoing first order magnetic phase transitions. It has been shown that disorder in a system results in the formation kinetic arrest (H K ,T K ) band, like supercooling (H *,T *) and superheating (H **,T **) band. Quantitative proofs are given to show that (H K ,T K ) band is anticorrelated with (H *,T *) and (H **,T **) bands, while the later two are correlated among themselves. Analysis of time dependence of magnetization at different temperatures is carried out to establish the fact that the kinetic arrested state is different from the supercooled state.  相似文献

Artificially roughness is one of the well known methods of enhancing heat transfer from the heat transfer surface in the form of repeated ribs, grooves or combination of ribs and groove (compound turbulators). The artificial roughness produced on the heat transferring surface is used in cooling of gas turbine blades, nuclear reactor, solar air heating systems etc. Solar air heaters have wide applications in low to moderate temperature range, namely, drying of foods, agricultural crops, seasoning of wood and space heating etc. Solar air heaters have low value of convective heat transfer coefficient between the working fluid (air) and the heat transferring surface, due to the formation of thin laminar viscous sub-layer on its surface. The heat transfer from the surface can be increased by breaking this laminar viscous sub layer. Hence, in the present work compound turbulators in the form of integral wedge shaped ribs with grooves are used on the heat transfer surface, to study its effect on the heat transfer coefficient (Nusselt number) and friction factor in the range of Reynolds number 3,000–18,000. The roughness produced on the absorber plate forms the wetted side of upper broad wall of the rectangular duct of solar air heater. The relative groove position (g/p) was varied from 0.4 to 0.8 and the wedge angle (Φ) was varied from 10° to 25°, relative roughness pitch (p/e) and relative roughness height (e/D) was maintained as 8.0 and 0.033 respectively. The aspect ratio of the rectangular duct was maintained as 8. The Nusselt number and friction factor of the artificially roughened ducts were determined experimentally and the corresponding values were compared with that of smooth surface duct. It is observed that wedge-groove roughened surface shows more enhancement in heat transfer compared to only rib roughened surface arrangement. The investigation revealed that Nusselt number increases 1.5–3 times, while the friction factor increases two to three folds that of the smooth surface duct in the range of operating parameters. It is also observed that in rib–groove roughness arrangement with relative groove position of 0.65 shows the maximum enhancement in the heat transfer compared to the other rib-groove roughness arrangements. Statistical correlations for the Nusselt number and friction factor have been developed by the regression method in terms of the operating and roughness parameters. A program was also developed in MATLAB for the calculation of thermal efficiency and thermal effectiveness. It was observed that the thermal efficiency is more for wedge angle of 15° and relative groove position of 0.65 and its value ranges from 42 to 73 %. The uncertainties in the measurements due to various instruments for the Reynolds number, Nusselt number, and friction factor have been estimated as ±3.8, ±4.54 and ±7.6 % respectively in the range of investigation made.  相似文献

Androstenedione (AD) is a steroid intermediate used in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of several important anabolic drugs. An important route for producing AD is by the microbial transformation of sterols. Microbes capable of efficiently transforming sterols to AD are few and newer strains need to be isolated. Conventional procedures for screening and isolation are time consuming. A new procedure was used for screening and isolation of fungal microorganisms capable of biotransformation of sitosterol to androstenedione. In this procedure, Basic Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) and Position-Specific Iterative BLAST were employed to obtain a parent set of candidate microorganisms. The parent set was reduced using heuristics and constraints to obtain a manageable number of microorganisms that may be tested experimentally. For this work, screening of the entire NCBI database yielded a parent set containing 64 microorganisms. Among these, only two microorganisms, Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus nidulans FGSC A4, qualified to the experimental stage. Sitosterol biotransformation experiments were carried out using A. oryzae and the production of AD in culture medium was confirmed.  相似文献

(La0.6Eu0.4)0.67Ca0.33MnO3 has been prepared in the shape of nanoplates of single crystallites (an orthorhombic structure) through polymer templates. HRTEM images reveal 18, 25, and 30 nm thicknesses of plates after heating a precursor powder at 873, 1073, and 1273 K in air for 2 h. These values present average crystallite size determined from broadening of the X-ray diffraction peaks. A spin-glass-like surface (GS) overlayer (3-5 nm thickness) in such plates facilitates a ferromagnetic→ferrimagnetic reordering with markedly suppressed Curie point TC, i.e., as small as 90 K in a 873 K heated sample, from the parent value 268 K. The TC point increases to 103 K (or 120 K) when heating at higher temperature 1073 (or 1273 K), during which the core grows at the expense of the overlayer. The GS tailors as high coercivity Hc as 617 Oe in the zero field cooled (ZFC) sample that is decreased to 500 Oe in the field cooled (FC) sample in the surface spin-freezing along the field direction. The Hc-value (ZFC) that steps down successively to 252 Oe on the overlayer is thinned down by heating at 1273 K. Samples heated at 873, 1073, or 1273 K have regularly increased saturation magnetization 35.3, 63.9, or 69.6 emu/g in ZFC, while 43.7, 70.2, or 75.5 emu/g in FC measured at 10 K. The ferrimagnetic reordering are described based on the scenario of an antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between the Eu3+ and Mn3+ (or Mn4+) sublattices.  相似文献

High molecular weight polymer poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP), ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (EMIMFSI), and salt lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI)-based free-standing and conducting ionic liquid-based gel polymer electrolytes (ILGPE) have been prepared by solution cast method. Thermal, electrical, and electrochemical properties of 80 wt% IL containing gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) are investigated by thermogravimetric (TGA), impedance spectroscopy, linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The 80 wt% IL containing GPE shows good thermal stability (~?200 °C), ionic conductivity (6.42?×?10?4 S cm?1), lithium ion conductivity (1.40?×?10?4 S cm?1 at 30 °C), and wide electrochemical stability window (~?4.10 V versus Li/Li+ at 30 °C). Furthermore, the surface of LiFePO4 cathode material was modified by graphene oxide, with smooth and uniform coating layer, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and with element content, as confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum. The graphene oxide-coated LiFePO4 cathode shows improved electrochemical performance with a good charge-discharge capacity and cyclic stability up to 50 cycles at 1C rate, as compared with the without coated LiFePO4. At 30 °C, the discharge capacity reaches a maximum value of 104.50 and 95.0 mAh g?1 for graphene oxide-coated LiFePO4 and without coated LiFePO4 at 1C rate respectively. These results indicated improved electrochemical performance of pristine LiFePO4 cathode after coating with graphene oxide.  相似文献

Twenty eight stones were characterized for chemical composition and structure. The concentrations of trace elements were determined using INAA while EDXRF was used for determining the calcium contents of the stones. Twenty stones were found to be mainly composed of calcium, six were mixed type and the remaining two were of uric acid type. The concentrations of trace elements namely Zn, Sr, Fe and Cr were lower in uric acid stones as compared to calcium based stones. Diet analysis of 310 patients who were treated for renal stones showed a diet rich in calcium and oxalate and decreased water consumption.

Some mixed-ligand thorium(IV) complexes with the general formula [Th(OOCCH3)4?nLn] (L = anions of myristic, palmitic or stearic acid and n = 1–4) have been synthesized by the stepwise substitution of acetate ions of thorium(IV) acetate with straight chain carboxylic acids in toluene under reflux. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, spectral (electronic, infrared, NMR and powder XRD) studies, electrical conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Doubly and triply bridged coordination modes of the ligands were established by their infrared spectra and nano-size of the complexes by powder XRD. Room temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed diamagnetic nature of the complexes. Electronic absorption spectra of the complexes showed π  π*, n  π* and charge transfer transitions. Molar conductance values indicated the complex to be non-electrolytes. These are a new type of mixed-ligand thorium(IV) complexes for which a nano-sized, oxygen bridged polymeric structure has been established on the basis of physico-chemical studies.  相似文献

Photonic crystals fabricated from the colloidal spheres of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) using the inward-growing self-assembly technique were subsequently in-filled with zinc oxide (ZnO) prepared by the sol-gel process. The polymer template was removed by heat treatment and chemical method to get ZnO-inverse photonic crystal. The structural quality of the inverse photonic crystal obtained by the chemical method was found to be superior to that obtained by heat treatment. The ZnO-inverse photonic crystal obtained by the chemical method was further treated at an elevated temperature to ensure the crystalline nature of ZnO. Laser-induced emission studies on ZnO-inverse photonic crystals were carried out at an excitation wavelength of 325 nm. The emission spectra showing UV and visible bands at collection angle of 45° from the direction of excitation helped to establish the role of crystalline ZnO.  相似文献
